Jeff Baena, writer and director of “Life After Beth” and “Spin Me Round” has died at 47. He was married to Aubrey Plaza and was found dead at his LA home on January 3, 2025.
Born June 29, 1977 in Miami, Florida. Studied film at New York University then moved to LA to pursue a career in the industry. He was a production assistant for Robert Zemeckis and an assistant editor for David O.
Russell with whom he co-wrote the 2004 film “I Heart Huckabee”
Baena’s directorial debut was the 2014 zombie comedy “Life After Beth” starring Aubrey Plaza.
The couple started dating in 2011 and worked together on several projects including “The Little Hours” (2017) and the anthology series “Cinema Toast” (2021) which was Plaza’s directorial debut.
In May 2024 Plaza announced their marriage in an Instagram post calling him her “darling husband”. The couple kept their personal life private but were very public in supporting each other’s work.
Tributes are pouring in from the film community and fans. His original voice in indie films and his work with Plaza is being celebrated.
